Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize

The Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize for Biology or Biochemistry ( Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize for Biology or Biochemistry ) is an American science prize, which is awarded annually by Columbia University for outstanding achievements in the field of biology or biochemistry.

The award was established by an endowment from S. Gross Horwitz and is named in honor of his mother. The prize was first awarded in 1967.

The Louisa Gross Horwitz Prize is one of the most prestigious science awards in America. Of the 94 winners received (November 2013) 44 (47%) later received the Nobel Prize in Medicine (33) or chemical (11).
