Loureira

The white grape Loureiro is an indigenous grape from Northern Portugal. Recommended is their cultivation in the regions of Douro and Minho. Approved it is in Ribatejo, Oeste and the Azores. In Portugal, the area under area is approximately 2,384 hectares. In Spain, the variety is known under the name Loureira and has been grown there in Galicia to approximately 194 hectares. Approved it is in the wine-growing regions Rías Baixas, Ribeira Sacra, Ribeiro.

The grew strong, late maturing variety produces aromatic wines. In the waste they will gladly expanded with the varieties Alvarinho or Trajadura and are used for example in the Vinho Verde. Loureiro is a variety of the noble vine (Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphrodite flowers and is thus self- fruiting.

There is also a red variety called Loureiro Tinto, which is very likely caused by mutation of Loureiro. Loureiro Tinto is approved in Galicia.
