Luigi Mastrangelo

Luigi Mastrangelo ( born August 17, 1975 in Mottola ) is an Italian volleyball player. He participated in four Olympic tournaments and was three times European champion.
Career
Mastrangelo began his career in 1991 in the youth team of his hometown. From 1992 to 1994 he played in concrete Matera in the league B1 and in the youth of Gonzaga Milano. In 1994, the middle blocker for the first time to the first division Alpitour Traco Cuneo. However, he spent the next two seasons back at the first class deeper associations VBC Mondovi (B1) and Formaggio Sardi Sant'Antioco (A2). In 1997 he returned to Cuneo. With the club Mastrangelo won the 1998 European Cup Winners' Cup and a year later the Italian Cup. On 28 May 1999 he was in the World League match in Sydney against Australia his debut in the Italian national team, which eventually won the competition. In the same year Italy Mastrangelo also became European Champion with a victory against Russia. 2000 defended the Italians successfully the title in the World League. At the Olympic Games in Sydney Mastrangelo won the bronze medal with the team. 2001 was followed by another victory in the World League in 2002 Mastrangelo was successful with Cuneo in the Italian Cup and in the CEV Cup. He then moved within the league to Lube Macerata. With his new club he again succeeded in winning the cup. The Italians won the 2003 World Cup. At the European Championships in Germany defending the title and Mastrangelo received an individual award as the best blocker. 2004 missed the national team the next track just by a defeat against Brazil. In the finals of the Olympic tournament, they defeated the same opponents. 2005, Italy was, however, in their own country for the third time in a row champions; Mastrangelo was again the best middle blocker of the tournament. He then went for a season to Cimone Modena before he was hired in 2006 by M. Roma Volley. 2008 Mastrangelo won the CEV Cup with the Romans against the groups. After one season at Stamp load Martina Franca 2009 he came to his present club BreBanca Lannutti Cuneo. In his first season after returning to Cuneo he was Italian champion and made the new victory in the CEV Cup. 2011 was followed by winning the National Cup. With the national team, he lost the final of the European Championship against Serbia. In 2012 he won with Italy at the Olympics in London the bronze medal.
