Luxembourg (Belgium)

Luxembourg ( Luxembourg French, Walloon Lussimbork ) is a province in the country's Walloon part of Belgium. The province is located in the southeast of Belgium on the border of present-day Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Provincial capital is Arlon ( German and Luxembourgish Arel, Dutch Aarlen ).

Luxembourg is the largest area of Belgium province, but at the same time also has the lowest population density.

The area belonged to the time of the German Confederation of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Grand Duke was at that time in personal union of the Dutch king. After the Belgian Revolution of 1830 and the consequent elimination of the southern provinces of the Netherlands, the then Luxembourg was divided between Belgium and the Netherlands. The division was only partially along the German - French language border.

The most important museum dedicated to the culture of the province is the open air museum Fourneau Saint Michel with an agricultural and mining- history department. In Wéris carries significant megalithic sites.

The Baraque de Fraiture in Durbuy is 652 m above sea level, the highest elevation of the province.
