Mahmud Shah Durrani

Mahmud Shah Durrani († 1829) was a Pashtun king who ruled from 1801 to 1803 and again from 1809 to 1818 over the Durrani Empire in Afghanistan today.

Mahmud Shah was the son of Timur Shah and half-brother of his predecessor, Zaman Shah. On July 25, 1801 Zaman Shah was deposed, and Mahmud Shah as his successor. He had a checkered career: in 1803 he was deposed and one of his half-brothers, Shah Shuja, followed him in office. Mahmud Shah in 1809 sparked this off again. His reign ended in 1818, he died in 1829.
