Maik Zirbes
Maik Zirbes ( born January 29, 1990 in Traben -Trarbach, Rhineland -Palatinate ) is a German basketball national team. The 2.07 -meter center was funded from 2005 in the junior program of Bundesliga TBB Trier and is in the squad of the Brose Baskets Bamberg since the 2012/13 season.
Success as a youth player
2008 Zirbes participated with the German U18 national team at the prestigious Albert Schweitzer Tournament in Mannheim and at the U18 European Championship in Greece. In both tournaments, he was one of the outstanding players individually. He also won this year with the U18 team of SFG Bernkastel in Berlin DBB Youth Cup. After completion of the 2008/09 season he was named Most Valuable Player of the NBBL.
Professional career
TBB Trier
In the season 2009/10 Zirbes came in 28 Bundesliga appearances for Trier to use, but was overall not the status of a player's complement addition. He received additional playing time as a double professional players in Pro A, where he scored an average of 8.9 points for the Saar-Pfalz Braves in 14 games.
In the season 2010/11 Maik Zirbes was again in the squad of TBB Trier and his breakthrough as a player in the Bundesliga. The new coach Henrik Rödl introduced him from the start as a center in the starting lineup on. With 34 missions in the Bundesliga and a field litter rate of over 60 percent Zirbes increased its points average of 1.6 to 7.5.
After a further performance boost in the first half of the 2011/12 season Zirbes was first nominated in January 2012 for the All -Star game in the Bundesliga. He scored 14 points for the coached by his club coach Rödl " National Team ". With an average of 10.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game Zirbes was a guarantee for the relegation of Trier, the firm was only at the penultimate round. He recorded a total of 106 offensive rebounds, and thus led the ranking of the league in this category. For his achievements in the 2011/12 season the coaches voted him the " Best German youth players " and the "Most Improved Player " (most improved player) in the league.
Brose Baskets
For the 2012/13 season changed Maik Zirbes the German league and cup Brose Baskets Bamberg, where he received a contract until 2015. As the successor of the Caja Laboral Spanish club exchanged Tibor Pleiss traded Zirbes played beginning of the season, both in the Bundesliga and in the Euro League regularly in the First Five of Bamberg. In January 2013 he stood for the first time in the BBL All- Star Game in the starting lineup chosen by the fans of the team National. Shortly before Zirbes public criticism of Wolfgang Heyder, CEO of the Brose Baskets, need to plug in to a "dangerous propensity for complacency " attested to him in an interview with the magazine BIG. The season 2012/13 ended for the Brose Baskets with the new winning the German Cup, where Zirbes 71 percent reported an outstanding throw percentage in the twelve play-off games against Phoenix Hagen, FC Bayern Munich and EWE Baskets Oldenburg.
National
At the age of 19 years Zirbes made his debut in a friendly match in the German national team, but was not subsequently appointed by the then national coach Dirk Bauer man in the squad for the 2009 European Championship in Poland.
His next international match played Zirbes in July 2012 during the second term of national coach Svetislav Pesic. After appealing benefits in some friendlies and in the Supercup he was nominated for the qualifying round of the European Championship 2013, was very successful with eight wins in eight games. Zirbes scored double figures in three games and clocked up an average of 5.4 points.
In September 2013 Maik Zirbes took under Pesics successor, Frank Menz first part in a European Championship. Despite a surprising opener victory against the eventual winners France, to the Zirbes contributed four points, already separated the German team at the tournament in Slovenia after the first round. As a back-up on the center position of the operating time of Zirbes average was less than ten minutes.
