FIBA EuroBasket 2013

The European Basketball Championship 2013 ( officially: Euro Basket 2013) was the 38th edition of this tournament and was held in Slovenia from 4 to 22 September 2013. The host was determined in December 2010, along with the German Basketball Federation viewed with Bosnia - Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Italy and Slovenia, five other associations for the event. On September 5, 2010 FIBA ​​Europe announced that only Slovenia and Italy competed for the event. For the first time in the history of the tournament France won the title.

The European Basketball Championship is a biennial basketball competition between European powers teams, which is organized by the Munich-based FIBA Europe, the European Basketball Federation.

Venues

The group games were played in Jesenice, Ljubljana ( Hala Tivoli), Celje and Koper. The matches of the second round and the final round in the knockout system took place in Ljubljana in the arena Stožice.

Participant

A total of 24 teams took part in the Euro Basket 2013, qualified in different ways for the tournament.

Slovenia was automatically eligible as host to participate; Furthermore, the three European participants of the 2012 Olympic Games, and the four European participants qualified at the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament directly for the Euro Basket 2013. The other 16 participants were determined through qualifying matches in summer 2012.

Qualification

Draw

From 15 August to 11 September 2012, a further 16 participants were determined. The draw gave the following Groups:

Preliminary round

In the preliminary round, six teams played in four groups against each other. The winner of the match was awarded two points, the loser one point. In case of equal points, the placement was led by comparing the direct encounters and, if necessary, by comparing the ratios basket. Second round

After the preliminary competition, the first three teams qualified in each group for the second round. The three teams of groups A and B formed the group E, which qualified the groups C and D, the new group formed F (both in Ljubljana). Each team met once against each of the three teams from the other Preliminary Round group. From the preliminaries, the points were continued that were achieved against skilled teams.

Final round

Mode

After the second round to the first four teams qualified in each of the two groups E and F for the final round. It was played in the quarter final cross against an opponent from the other sub-lap group. Subsequently, both the winners of the quarter finals met in the semi-finals, and the losers in the placement round for positions five to eight. The winners of the semi-finals contested the final, the losers play for third place. The winners of the placement games played for fifth place, the losers for seventh place.

All games were held in Ljubljana in the 12,480 -seater arena Stožice.

To the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament, the Frenchman Tony Parker has been selected. The All -Tournament team were besides him the Slovenian Goran Dragić, the Croatian Bojan Bogdanovic, Linas Kleiza of Lithuania and the Spaniard Marc Gasol.
