Maloelap Atoll

Maloelap is an atoll of Ratak Chain of the Marshall Islands. The atoll has a land area of 9.8 km ² with a lagoon area of 973 km ². The three largest islands of the atoll hot Taroa and boys in the north of the island. Only three islands of the atoll are not inhabited, Airok, Ollet and Jang. The atoll was the first which has approved the constitution of the Marshall Islands as a state. Located 15 km south to Aur Atoll is the closest.

2002 lived 796 inhabitants on the atoll. Low Economic importance of the atoll have the production of copra and tourism.

On the island of Tao ( also Tarawa or Taroa ) there is an airfield (IATA Code: MAV ) that has already been created by the Japanese in 1930. This easternmost Japanese military airfield was built during the Second World War over again heavily bombed by the Americans until 1944 he was completely destroyed. Even today, plane wrecks and remains of aerodrome equipment of the serious attacks.
