Ralik Chain

The Ralik chain is a chain of islands to the west of the territory of the Marshall Islands. Dating from the Micronesian language Ralik word meaning " sunset " (west). On the islands of the group about 21,100 people live.

Many of the atolls forming islets are uninhabited or because of the high radioactive beam loading due to a number of U.S. nuclear tests in the 1940s and 1950s on indefinitely uninhabitable (eg the Bikini Atoll ).

The Ralik chain consists of the following atolls and isolated, that is not to atolls belonging to individual islands together:

Marshal flag

From November 19 1878 to March 7, 1894, the native population of the islands Ralik introduced its own flag. It was, " subject to the approval of the Imperial German Government recognized as flag " by the German Commander Bartholomew of Werner, commander of the SMS Ariadne, the sailmaker had probably made. On March 7, 1894 its management was prohibited by the Governor of the Marshall Islands, which had become part of the German colony of German New Guinea. The locals were granted by Almighty Cabinet Order of 19 September 1893 right to use the imperial flag.
