Manawatu District

Manawatu is a district in the North Island of New Zealand. It lies in the Manawatu-Wanganui Region.

Geography

The Manawatu is in the west and north by the Rangitikei River from the Rangitikei District ( Manawatu-Wanganui Region ) and to the east by the Tararua Range, a central mountain range from the Central- Hawke's Bay District ( Hawke 's Bay ) and the Tararua district (Region Manawatu -Wanganui ) delimited. The natural boundary of Horowhenua District in the South is of the Manawatu River, from which the district takes its name and forms the mountains, the Manawatu Gorge.

Only the adjacent town of Palmerston North is defined not by geographical conditions from the Manawatu. The southwestern border of the area is the Tasman Sea.

Population

Largest city and seat of the district administration is Feilding with about 12,700 inhabitants. Feilding has been repeatedly voted " most beautiful city in New Zealand ." Other towns are Bulls and Sanson.
