Manuel Félix Díaz

Manuel Félix Díaz Guzman ( born December 10, 1983 in Santo Domingo ) is a boxer from the Dominican Republic. He was the 2008 Beijing Olympic champion in the light welterweight.

Career

Amateur

Félix Díaz grew up in the Dominican Republic in a poor neighborhood in East Santo Domingo. The young colored came there for the first fought in boxing and lightweight ( up to 60 kg body weight) and moved in 2005 into the Light Welterweight ( up to 64 kg body weight). At a size of 1.65 m, it weighs about 65 kg.

The international career of boxer Félix Díaz began in 2002 at the Junior World Championship in Santiago de Cuba. He defeated there in the lightweight Americans Karl Dargan, but lost in the second round the Russians Dawid Arustamjan, finishing in 9th place. In the same year he won in San Salvador the title at the Central American and Caribbean Games. He landed there three early victories over Stanley Méndez from Costa Rica, Jesús González from Mexico and Alexander de Jesus from Puerto Rico. Finally, he also won the tournament Batalle de Carabobo in Valencia / Venezuela with a victory in the final of the lightweight weight over Wilfredo Lopez of Venezuela in 2002.

In 2003, Félix Díaz participated in the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo and came in lightweight to third place. He defeated Ramiro there Quinones from Ecuador and Matias Ferreira from Argentina on points, but lost in the semi-final against world champion Mario Kindelán from Cuba on points. He stayed in this fight against the superior boxer Kindelán excellent because he was defeated only with 12:16 score points.

In 2004, Félix Díaz finished the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Athens in Tijuana / Mexico in lightweight second place, where he could no longer compete for the final battle against Vicente Escobedo from the United States. He took second place also at the Copa Romana 2007, when in the final he could no longer compete against Rafael González from Venezuela to victories over his countrymen Juan Carlos Abreu, Jose Antonio Rodriguez and Euris Bernardo because of an injury. At the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, he won first over Gumersindo Carrasco from Argentina by termination in the second round, but lost in the quarterfinals losing to accept Innocente Fiss, who was with 12:13 score points, however, extremely scarce. In 2007 he took then also at the World Amateur Championship in Chicago in part. He won his first fight there on Su Hsiao Ken from Taiwan, but lost the next fight against Masatsugu Kawachi of Japan just after points ( 14:15 ), left and came in the final only to 17th place.

The Olympia 2008 Félix Díaz began again with a start at the Independence Cup. He won there over Kevin Bizier by demolition in the third round, then won over Ualace Almeida from Brazil and Leonardo Castillo, Dom. Rep. on points and lost the final battle of the Cuban masters Rosniel Iglesias just on points (3:4). He then took part in Port of Spain in Trinidad on the first American qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Beijing. He managed this qualification there not because he lost in his first fight against Aaron Hassette from Trinidad on points. The following Qualifying Tournament in Guatemala City then offered him the last opportunity, but still qualify for the Olympic Games. With a knockout victory in the first round of Nicolas Silva from Uruguay and point wins over Leonardo Carrillo of Colombia ( 10:9 ) and Myke Carvalho ( 8:6 ), he then managed the Olympic qualifiers actually still.

In June 2008, Félix Díaz tested then its shape into which he had been brought by the Cuban coach of the Dominican national boxing Pedro Luis Díaz, the tournament for the Golden Belt ( Golden Belt) in the Romanian Constanta.
