Marches, Drôme

Marches is a commune in the north of the department of Drôme in the Rhône -Alpes.

History

Marches was first mentioned in 924 as Villa Marcha. In the late Middle Ages, the municipality as well as the whole surrounding area belonged in the mouth region of Isère in the Rhone to the duchy of Valentinois. In the 14th century, the area was passed to the Lords of Taulignan.

Population

With 772 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Marches rather one of the smaller communities in the department of Drôme. 409 residents still were counted In the 1962 census. In the 1960s and 1970s, the population began to rise only very weak, but stronger growth has been used since the 1980s.
