Marcilly-sur-Eure

Marcilly -sur -Eure is a commune with 1568 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Eure in the Haute-Normandie region. It belongs to the Local Government Association, La Porte Normande. In Marcilly -sur -Eure stands the monastery Le Breuil -Benoît.

Geography

Marcilly -sur -Eure is located in northern France on the border of the provinces Campagne du Neubourg and Drouais, in the southeast corner of the department of Eure in the Eure River, 72 kilometers west of Paris, about 25 kilometers southeast of Evreux, the seat of the Prefecture for the district, and about 11 km southeast of Saint -André -de- l'Eure, the capital of the canton on an average height of 103 meters above sea level. The Mairie stands at a height of 70 meters. Neighboring communities of Marcilly -sur -Eure are Saint -Laurent -des- Bois in the northwest, Croth in the Northeast, Saint -Georges- Motel to the southeast and Louye in the southwest. The municipality has an area of 1548 hectares.

The municipality is one of the type Cfb climate zone ( Köppen and Geiger after ) assigned: Warm Temperate rain climate ( C ), fully wet ( f), the warmest month below 22 ° C, at least four months above 10 ° C ( b). There is a maritime climate with moderate summer.

History

During construction of the railway line from Evreux to Dreux 1841 behind the castle Mésangère found in reddish alluvial soil skeleton. 1967 cars from the grave Spätlatène (150 BC to 30 BC ) discovered. The grave contained 90 objects or fragments of objects. Apart from parts of the car forged nails, a sword, a shield boss, a kettle, spatula, razor, a sickle and ceramics were found. In aerial photographs in June 1982 trenches were found from the Spätlatène that were 1983 and 1984 examined by an excavation.

In 1137 Fulk, the then Seigneur of the fief Breuil -Benoît, a monastery with Benedictine monks from Savigny founded. 1147 the monastery Breuil -Benoît joined the Cistercian monastery of Clairvaux.

The feud Brazais came in 1469 in the possession of the family Bois- Rouvray. The monastery Breuil -Benoît was declared a national property during the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ). Altars, tabernacles, iron railings and lead coffins were reduced or taken away, then, the monastery was sold in 1791 to a notary. The sold the property in August 1793 again. 1842 acquired Gustave de Reiset the former monastery, leaving the ruins stabilize. He established himself in built in the early 17th century residential buildings of the monastery.
