Marco Chiudinelli

Marco Chiudinelli ( born September 10, 1981 in Basel ) is an active on the ATP World Tour Swiss tennis player. He lives in Füllinsdorf ( Basel-Landschaft ).

Career

He started his career Chiudinelli with his childhood friend Roger Federer TC Old Boys Basel. In 1997 he was selected by Swiss Tennis for Tennis Etudes in Biel. Since 2000 he participates in the ATP Tour. In 2001 he moved to the breakpoint team to Halle ( Westfalen). In 2005, he could ascend into the top 100 in the world tennis rankings for the first time, then had to pause but due to several injuries over 10 months. The step in the top 100 he succeeded on October 5, 2009. Chiudinelli also plays for the Swiss Davis Cup team and recorded operations against Spain (2007 ), Serbia (2006) and Holland ( 2005). His biggest success at a Grand Slam was reaching the third round at the U.S. Open in 2006, in which he failed after victories against Fernando Vicente Feliciano Lopez and Richard Gasquet. In 2009, he moved at the U.S. Open in the third round, however, it lost to Nikolay Davydenko in straight three sets. At the Davidoff Swiss Indoors Basel 2009, he reached the semifinals and failed only there his compatriot and former number one world tennis rankings Roger Federer in just two sentences. On the Challenger Tour he has so far two singles and one doubles title win. His first and only ATP title he won in Gstaad in 2009, when he won the doubles competition with Michael Lammer. 2009 Award "Comeback of the Year" was awarded to him by the ATP, due to its global ranking position which he improved by more than 700 seats in the course of the year. Beginning of the year he was still at position 779, but improved as a result of good performance, thanks in part to the quarter-final qualification in Bangkok and the semi-final at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, at position 56 at the end of the year.
