Mark Wells

Mark Ronald Wells ( born September 18, 1957 in St. Clair Shores, Michigan ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player who was at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid Olympic champion in ice hockey.

Career

Mark Wells began his career as a hockey player with the Detroit Jr. Red Wings. From 1975 to 1979 he attended the Bowling Green State University, for their hockey team he played in parallel in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. During this period, he was selected in the NHL Amateur Draft 1977 in the 13th round as the 176th overall player of the Canadiens de Montréal, for which, however, he never played. Instead, he spent the 1979/80 season in the first team USA during the Olympic preparation and then at the professional hockey teams Nova Scotia Voyageurs of the American Hockey League as well as Flint Generals of the International Hockey League. In the 1980/81 season of the Center for the New Haven Nighthawks of the AHL in 67 games scored 43 points scorer, 14 goals. In the season 1981/82 he was in the IHL for the Fort Wayne Komets and his former club Flint Generals on the ice. In addition, he played 14 games for the Oklahoma City Stars of the Central Hockey League. He then finished his career at the age of 24 years.

Internationally

For the U.S., Wells participated in Lake Placid at the Olympic Winter Games 1980. The so-called Miracle on Ice, he won the gold medal with his team. He scored in the tournament in seven games two goals and an assist.
