Márton Lőrincz

Márton Lőrincz ( born October 28, 1911 in corundum, Harghita County, † November 26, 1969 in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina) was a Hungarian wrestler and Olympic champion.

Career

Márton Lőrincz developed since the early 1930s in Budapest to a world-class wrestler. He wrestled in two styles, Greco- Roman and free style. However, it took until 1934 before he was able to prevail in Hungary against the top wrestlers Odon Zombori and László Szekfii.

In 1934 he was first used at the European Championships in Stockholm in a European Championship and immediately won the European title in the bantamweight, free style. He defeated while also Herman Tuvesson from Sweden, the nemesis of Odon Zombori, safe on points.

At the European Championships 1935 in Copenhagen in Greco-Roman style, he could not prevail and retired bantamweight with two defeats already after the second round. Better he fared at the European Championships the same year in Brussels in free style. He became vice European champions after a defeat in the final battle against Marcello Nizzola from Italy.

It is surprising that Lőrincz was used in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin in Greco -Roman style, although he had achieved much greater success in free style. He convinced in Berlin but officials and opponents with his excellent form and was rewarded with four wins and one defeat against the Estonians Evald Sikk that are not negatively affected by winning the gold medal.

After the 1936 Olympics he finished his international career. Márton Lőrincz was Jewish. However, he was able to bring in good time before Hitler's henchmen to Argentina in safety, where he lived until his death in 1969.
