Mats Julian Hummels ( born December 16, 1988 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a German football player. Hummels plays since the beginning of 2008 with Borussia Dortmund and running on there as a central defender; He is the player of the German national team.

Childhood and youth

Mats Hummels came in 1988 as the son of a sports journalist Ulla HolthofF and soccer player Hermann Hummels to the world. He grew up in the Rhine -Main region, where his younger brother Jonas was born two years after him. After father Hermann had gone as a youth coach for FC Bayern Munich, the family moved to Munich. Mats Hummels played from the age of seven at Bayern Munich. In youth he often played with his brother Jonas.

During the 2005/06 season coach Hermann Gerland called Hummels from the U 19 for the first time in the Regional team. The following year he was there immediately to regular players.
