Mattias Östberg

Mattias Östberg (born 24 August 1977) is a Swedish football player. The defender played his career, especially in his home country. Because of a settlement in 2002 after he was transfer law audition in England half series without a club.

Career

Östberg began playing football at Östansbo IS. In 1996 he moved to third division Ludvika FK, with which he ascended to the second division at the end of the 1997. As a second to last with 25 plus points but he missed the club avoid relegation in Division 1 Norra. Since he had made a name for higher class, he moved to IFK Norrköping in the Allsvenskan. On the side of players like Eddie Gustafsson, Mathias Florén, Klebér Saarenpää, Jonas Wallerstedt and Kristian Bergström he became the master force in defense of the club. After the expiration of his contract with IFK Norrköping end of 2001 Östberg played in January 2002 as a practice player for the reserve team of the English club Stoke City in a game against the reserve of Walsall FC. The club did, however, on an obligation. As a result, he was the victim of a then newly introduced rule regarding the transfer law, the maximum an international exchange per season, stated that: Since he had participated in an official competition game, he was eligible to play until the summer only in England. Finally, he joined IK Brage in the subprime Superettan at, for which he was eligible to play starting in July. Right away he was a regular in the defensive line, but missed with the team at the end of the season in the league. He remained loyal to the club and led him to his new position - he played as a defensive midfielder - to relay victory. In the subsequent rise of games coached by Bernt Ljung team won both games against supervised by Olle Nordin Jönköping Södra IF and thus returned directly to the second- highest league back. As a newcomer to the club stood directly in a relegation battle and went after only five wins this season once again.

Östberg remained in the higher-class Swedish football and changed within the Superettan to GAIS. With the team he reached the end of the 2005 the relegation place to Allsvenskan. At the Gothenburg club re-erected as a defensive player, he was in two games against Landskrona BoIS on the court and got on with the team in the first division. In the Premiership season of 2006 due to an injury temporarily incapacitated, he made with Richard Ekunde the central defensive duo of the club. After he came in the following season due to injury infrequently used, he announced already for half of the season in the summer of his departure at the end and a switch to local rivals BK Hacken.

With his new club Ostberg was playing on the side of Jonas Henriksson, Paulinho, Vinícius Lopes, Johan Lind and David Marek for promotion to the Allsvenskan. With one point ahead of last year's relegated IF Brommapojkarna, who finished in third place, the team on the final day reached a promotion place. After the climb, Peter Gerhardsson took over as coach and led the team to fifth place in the table. Again temporarily injured belonged Östberg under his direction to the regulars. In the following season he was finally starting players and eventually missed in the 2011 no minutes as he played all 30 season games.

Beginning of August 2012, undertook the Stockholm club Djurgårdens IF Östberg as a new center-back after Marc Pedersen had hurt and Kebba Ceesay was changed to Poland, and signed a contract valid until the end of 2013 with him. By the end of the season he played two games as a substitute.
