The Melezza is a 40 km long river, which rises north of Santa Maria Maggiore in the Italian Vigezzo as Melezzo Orientale (Eastern Melezzo ). In Santa Maria Maggiore, the river turns east and flows shortly thereafter in Switzerland, where he is to Melezza through which the Cento Valli flows in the Canton of Ticino and opens at Ponte Brolla in the Maggia.
