Menomonie is a city ( with a status of "City" ) and the administrative seat of Dunn County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2010 Menomonie had 16,264 inhabitants.

Geography

Menomonie is located at 44 ° 53 'north latitude and 91 ° 55' west longitude, covers 37.8 km ² ( 33.3 km ² of it land area) at an altitude of 249 m above sea level. The city is located on Lake Menomin, a reservoir on the Red Cedar River.

Interstate 94 leads north in west-east direction through the city. The U.S. Highway 12 leads from the east on the southwest shore of the reservoir along up through the north west of the city. The Wisconsin Highways 25 and 29 run north-south or east-west direction through the city.

The town was connected to the railway network in the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railway and the " Chippewa River and Menomonie Railway Company ". Currently, the rail service from Union Pacific is provided and the distance along the Red Cedar River is part of the Red Cedar State Trail.

The Chippewa Valley Regional Airport is located 35 kilometers east of the city.

The nearest large towns are Eau Claire (about 40 km to the east ) and the Twin Cities ( Minneapolis and Saint Paul ) in Minnesota (about 100 miles west). Madison, the capital of the state is located about 330 km south-east and Chicago, the nearest big city, about 550 km south-east.
