Metamorphosis (EP)

Occupation

Beep Jam Studio

Metamorphosis is the first EP by the Norwegian band Ulver. She appeared in 1999 in Jester Records and was distributed by Voices of Wonder.

Creation and publication

The EP should be a foretaste of the next album Perdition City - Music to serve an Interior film, which has already been announced on the back cover. Ulver, consisting only of Kristoffer Rygg and gates Ylwizaker, Metamorphosis took on the Jester and Beep Jam Studios. Ylwizaker mixed the EP at Endless Sound Productions, Ingar Hunskaar it mastered at Strype Laboratories.

Title list

The piece was written by Rygg and Ylwizaker. For " gnosis " is an excerpt from Arthur Rimbaud's Une saison en enfer was used. A music video for " Limbo Central" appeared on Perdition City.

Style

A abgedruckter in the inlay of Metamorphosis Ulver's comment brings significant rejection of a categorization as Black Metal band expressed. The title of the EP is so programmatically, because the band is now completing final position indicated by the Themes from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell metamorphosis of the metal to electronica band. The songs on the EP are attributable to techno, trip-hop and ambient. There you will find hectic beats and loops, electronic effects and noise and minimalist soundscapes. The songs are mostly instrumental.

Reception

The reactions to the EP were predominantly positive. William York of Allmusic considered Metamorphosis not as Ulver's most outstanding publication, but as rewarding for fans of her post-metal phase. Gunnar Claussen of the Baby Blue Pages keeps the EP for " quite exciting," Andreas Stappert from Rock Hard for " [s ] ore bizarre, but quite interesting."
