Life and work

At the age of 16, he founded Ulver, whose debut album was released in 1995 Bergtatt and became a milestone of Black Metal. Since 1993 he was also a member of Arcturus, Borknagar since 1995. He left the latter in 1997 again. At the same time, he began to move away from the black metal roots with Arcturus and Ulver; both bands now integrated foreign genre elements in albums such as La Masquerade Infernal and Themes from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell. With Ulver he turned in the episode entirely from metal and from the trip-hop and ambient to Arcturus he left in 2003. In 2010, he denied any ties to his old fans as well as intentions of ever songs from the first three albums Ulver perform live.

Rygg founded 1998 by the independent label Jester Records in the mid- 2000s with Daniel Cardoso the alternative metal band Head Control System and the end of the 2000s with Stephen O'Malley, David Tibet and Daniel O'Sullivan the improvisation project Æthenor.

In the 1990s, he had firmly believed in the supernatural and dark powers. He described himself later as a Satanist, but turned it off a few years later. It 'll go to him now about earthly issues like humanity and humanity.

Rygg has two children.
