Shadows of the Sun is the seventh studio album by the Norwegian band Ulver. It was published in 2007 by The End Records under license from Jester Records.

Creation and publication

After Blood Inside it was quiet around two years Ulver. They justified this in July 2007 with a need for seclusion and their dissatisfaction with the world and the music business. At the same time they announced the release of a new and their most personal album for October.

Shadows of the Sun was recorded in Oslo Ambassaden Studio. During the recordings had a string quartet and Mathias Eick (trumpet ), Fennesz, Espen Jørgensen ( guitar) and Pamelia Kurstin ( theremin ) with. The album was mastered by Audun Strype. It appeared as a regular CD, limited in Leather Book and LP with different cover.

Title list

" Eos " appeared in another version already on the Uno soundtrack; "Solitude" is a Black Sabbath cover version (from Master of Reality). Funèbre based in its basic melody on Chopin ' marche funebre '.

Style

Unlike the eclectic and loud Blood Inside Shadows of the Sun is a mostly organic and quiet album. It is dominated by the soft, warm sounds of the Ambient and Ryggs breathy vocals. Occasionally, the harmonious sound surfaces by dissonant horns, shrill effects or hectic rhythms are disrupted, which also gives the album a dark and threatening atmosphere.
