Blood Inside is the sixth studio album by the Norwegian band Ulver. It appeared in 2005 at Jester Records and was distributed by Voices Music & Entertainment.

Creation and publication

After several EPs and soundtracks early 2000s Ulver participated again in 2004 a regular studio album, in Oslo and in Los Angeles. As a guest musician bosses, Håvard Jørgensen, Mike Keneally (both guitar), Carl- Michael " Czral " Eide, Knut Aalefjær (both drums), Andreas Mjøs (vibraphone ), Jeff Gauthier (violin) and Maja Ratkje were involved ( choirs ). Parts of the album were mixed by Ronan Chris Murphy, mastered it was Audun Strype. To " It Is Not Sound", a music video was produced. Blood Inside appeared as a regular CD, limited red velvet-box and on LP with different cover.

Title list

For the coda of "It Is Not Sound" a toccata by Johann Sebastian Bach was used. The lyrics to " Christmas" was originally written by Fernando Pessoa.

Style

Blood Inside let the minimalist trip-hop and ambient of the previous album Perdition City and EPs largely behind is song -oriented and influences from numerous genres. There you will find orchestral arrangements, big band samples, psychedelic soundscapes, rhythms of electronica and industrial as well as motifs from jazz, progressive rock and post-rock. There are quieter, medium fast and frantic passages with spherical, anthemic melodies and dissonant; the atmosphere is usually bleak.

Reception

Blood Inside was well received by the press. Praises Gunnar Claussen of the Baby Blue Pages, the " exciting modern music full of associations and influences ." Eduardo Rivadavia of Allmusic the album finds inspiring and courageous. Wehrmut from the online magazine Vönger holds for Blood Inside " a very difficult, but probably the best Ulver album of the new era."
