Mezzovico-Vira

Mezzovico- Vira

Mezzovico- Vira is a municipality in the district tavern district of Lugano in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

History

The place was inhabited in pre-Roman times and was first mentioned in 1335 Medio Vico, Vira.

On 25 November 2007, the merger of the seven churches in Vedeggio Valley was approved by the voters of five municipalities: Bironico, Camignolo, Medeglia, Rivera and Sigirino would have therefore have to merge to the municipality Monteceneri. Isone and Mezzovico- Vira rejected the merger. As a result, the State Council decided not to submit to the Grand Council a forced merger of the two hostile communities. So Mezzovico- Vira retains its independence, but is now almost entirely enclosed by Monteceneri.
