Michael Ogio

Sir Michael Ogio KSTJ GCMG CBE (* July 7, 1942 ) is a politician of New Guinea papua. Since 25 January 2011, he is elected Governor General of Papua New Guinea.

Michael Ogio 2000 was forest minister in the government Mekere Morauta and Deputy Prime Minister since May 2001. In the reign of Michael Somare he was from 2007 to 2011 Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology. He was leader of the People's Democratic Movement party and representatives of Bougainville in the parliament of Papua New Guinea.

Ogio acting Governor-General was as his predecessor, Jeffrey Nape resigned after one week in office on December 20, 2010. On 14 January 2011 he was elected by the Parliament of Papua New Guinea with 65 votes for Governor General. His opponent Pato Kakeraya received 23 votes. Michael Ogio was sworn in on 25 February 2011.
