Vincent Eri

Sir Vincent Eri Serei, GCMG ( born September 12, 1936 in Moveave, Gulf Province, Papua New Guinea, † May 25 1993 in Port Moresby ) was a papua of New Guinea politician and writer.

Biography

After attending school, he completed a teaching degree at the University of Papua New Guinea and subsequently worked as a teacher before he was appointed director of education. In 1975 he was appointed the first General of the State in Australia and received of sovereignty on 16 September 1975 Title of the High Commissioner (High Commissioner). This office he held until 1979.

In 1986 he founded together with Ted Diro the People's Action Party (PAP ) and was chosen as their candidate for the Members of the meeting house ( House of Assembly ).

On 27 February 1990 he was appointed as the successor of the deceased on 31 December 1989 Sir Ignatius Kilage Governor-General and took over this office by Acting Governor General Dennis Young. At the same time he was appointed by Queen Elizabeth II to Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George.

A few months later, he brought about a constitutional crisis after the nunmehrige Deputy Prime Minister and his party colleague Ted Diro was accused of corruption and found guilty. According to the Constitution, he should have dismissed Diro what he did not. This led to a fierce controversy that ultimately brought about calls for his resignation over the Governor-General with it. Finally, Prime Minister Rabbie Namaliu wrote an official request to Queen Elizabeth II with the request for replacement Eris. On 4 October 1991 Eri resigned before an appropriate official detachment. Eri was next worked as a writer and was long regarded as the first native who had written with "The Crocodile " in 1970, a novel in English.
