Michael Simões Domingues

Michael Simões Domingues better known as Mika ( born March 8, 1991 Yverdon- les- Bains, Switzerland ) is a Portuguese goalkeeper. He currently plays for Benfica B in the second division of Portugal.

Career

Youth

Mika began his footballing career in the youth club of Sporting Pombal at the age of eleven years. After three years he joined in 2006 at the age of fifteen years to the youth club União Leiria.

União Leiria

His professional debut was Mika on 26 February 2010 in the match against Vitória Guimarães; after his goalkeeper colleague Hélder Godinho had received a red card, the striker Carlão was exchanged for Mika. In the rest of the season Mika was mainly used as a substitute goalkeeper. Still, he could put his skills to the test in three league matches, especially against the two big clubs Benfica and Sporting Lisbon he could put his skills to the test by having helped his team, in both games with great achievements to a draw.

Benfica Lisbon

On July 7, 2011 Mika signed for five hundred thousand euros a contract with Benfica until 2016. Leiria is a 20% stake in a resale.

Internationally

Through his performance at União Leiria against the big clubs, Mika was chosen U -20 national football team for the U-20 World Cup 2011 in Colombia in the team of the Portuguese. There he helped the national team reached the final without conceding a goal. Mika was eventually defeated in the final by Brazilian Oscar for the first time in the tournament. The game lost Portugal 3-2. FIFA awarded the Portuguese goalkeeper Mika from the Golden Glove as the best goalkeeper of the adidas tournament.

His debut for the Portugal U -21 team he was on 6 October 2011 in the U21 European Championship qualifiers against Poland.
