Michelle Martin

Michelle Susan Martin, OAM ( born April 29, 1967 in Sydney ) is a retired Australian squash player.

Career

Michelle Martin is one of the most successful squash players. Her biggest success was the three-time winning the World Cup in 1993, 1994 and 1995, when they each Liz Irving, Cassie Jackman and Sarah Fitz- Gerald defeated. As early as 1992 she was a finalist, defeated there but smooth in three sets Susan Devoy. Also from 1997 to 1999 she was three more times in the final, but lost Sarah Fitz- Gerald almost twice in five and 1999 Cassie Campion in three sets. With the Australian national team, it was between 1992 and 1998 a total of four times world champion. At the 1998 Commonwealth Games she won the gold medals in singles and mixed at the side of Craig Rowland. Between 1993 and 1998, won Michelle Martin the British Open six times in a row. In March 1993, she was the first leader of the world rankings and held this position 44 months at a time. It was replaced two years at the helm of Sarah Fitz- Gerald, before one last time for 16 months took over the leadership in November 1998. She ended her career, lying on top of the world rankings at the end of 1999.

In 2001, she was inducted into the World Squash Hall of Fame.

Private

Michelle Martins brothers Brett and Rodney Martin were also successful squash professionals.
