Miguel Ángel Girollet

Miguel Ángel Girollet ( born 1947 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, † April 24, 1996 in Madrid, Spain ) was one of the most important Argentine and Latin American classical guitarist.

Life

Girollet was born in 1947 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied guitar with the professors Graciela Pomponio and Jorge Martínez Zárate at the Conservatorio Juan José Castro in Buenos Aires. Later he continued his studies at Abel Carlevaro and Ljerko Spiller continued for three years.

Miguel Angel Girollet occurred in most famous concert halls in North and South America and Europe, such as the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Carnegie Hall in New York (3 times), DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, Berlin Philharmonic, the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow ( 4 times), the Leningrad Philharmonic, Philharmonic Kiev, the Khachatryan Hall of the Armenian Philharmonic, Dvorak Hall in Prague, Maison de Radio France and the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid. He was on tour in the former USSR ( five times), North, Latin and South America ( 6), and Germany (6). He was also often in Spain, France, Switzerland, England, Italy, Sweden, Poland, Greece, Belgium and Czechoslovakia. He played as a soloist with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, Thuringian Symphony Orchestra, Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra Buenes Aires, Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires, the National Opera Sofia ( 2 times) and Camerata Bariloche. His repertoire covered music from the 16th century until contemporary music.

Girollet was a professor at the International Seminar in Porto Alegre (Brazil), the Collegium Musicum de Buenos Aires and at other conservatories Argentina for ten years. In addition, he taught at the University of Bordeaux, the University of Puerto Rico, Veracruz University in Mexico, Universidad de Costa Rica, Bogota ( Colombia ) and the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid. He was also a judge at competitions in Europe and North and South America.

Instrument

Miguel Angel Girollet played on a guitar, which was built by Manuel Contreras (father) in 1989. The instrument is currently owned by Yves Lafontaine, a Canadian virtuoso.

Discography

Despite his international concert career and recognition of the guitar world Girollet took on just one CD. His reasons for this are unknown.
