Mike Medavoy

Morris Mike Medavoy ( born January 21, 1941 in Hongkou, Shanghai) is an American film producer and co-founder of Orion Pictures.

Life

Medavoy was born on January 21, 1941 in the Shanghai ghetto, the son of two Holocaust survivor. From 1947 to 1957 he lived in Chile. Medavoy graduated with honors in History from UCLA in 1963. In 1964 he started in the mailroom of Universal Studios. A year later he was promoted to casting director. Another year later he became a talent scout at the General Artist Corporation. In 1971, Medavoy Vice President of the International Famous Agency ( film division ), an office he held previously at Creative Management Agency. Three years later, in 1974, Medavoy was senior vice president at United Artists (production ) and in 1978 was co-founder of Orion Pictures. In 1990, he became CEO of TriStar Pictures. Medavoy discovered Linda Harrison.

Personally, he was involved in the production of more than 25 films.

Private life

Currently Medavoy is the CEO of Phoenix Pictures and lives with his wife, the former actress Irena Ferris, whom he married on 7 July 1995, and their son in Beverly Hills. His other son, Brian, is also active as a producer.

• On the Hollywood Walk of Fame Medavoy has a star in the film category ( 6801 Hollywood Blvd ).
• In 2006 he won the Hollywood Film Award for Producer of the Year.
• For Black Swan was nominated for Best Picture for the Oscars in the category 2011. In the same he was being awarded an Independent Spirit Award.
