Mike Ramsey (ice hockey)

Michael Allen Ramsey ( born December 3, 1960 in Minneapolis, Minnesota ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player and coach. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1980 he won the gold medal as a member of the U.S. national team.

Career

Mike Ramsey began his career as a hockey player at the University of Minnesota, for their hockey team, he participated in the 1978/79 season in the game operation of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. With his team, he immediately won the championship of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association as well as the champion of the NCAA. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1979 in the first round as a whole eleventh player of the Buffalo Sabres. The 1979/80 season began the defender when Team USA, at the Olympic preparation he participated and finished it with the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League. In his rookie year in the NHL, he scored two goals in 26 games and eight assists. From 1980 to the end of the 1992/93 season Ramsey was one of the leading players of the Buffalo Sabres. During this period he took four times on NHL All-Star Game in part ( 1982, 1983, 1985 and 1986). On March 22, 1993, he was released to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Bob Errey. He stayed there for one and a quarter years before he was hired as a free agent by the Detroit Red Wings. Following the 1996/97 season, the Americans ended his active career at the age of 36 years.

From 1997 to 2000 Ramsey was assistant coach of his former clubs Buffalo Sabres of the NHL. From 2001 to 2010 he worked for the League rival Minnesota Wild in the same position.

Internationally

For the U.S., Ramsey took part only at the Junior World Championship in 1979 at junior level. In the senior level, he participated in the 1982 World Cup as well as in the years 1984 and 1987 at the Canada Cup for the United States. In addition, he was in the squad of his country at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, where he won the gold medal with his team.
