Mischa Bakaleinikoff

Mischa Romanovich Bakaleinikoff (Russian: Михаил Романович Бакалейников / Mikhail Romanovich Bakaleinikow; born November 10, 1890 in Moscow, † August 10 1960 in Los Angeles ) was a Russian composer, who worked in Hollywood.

Life

Bakaleinikoff studied music when the Russian Revolution broke out, before their consequences, he fled to the United States in 1926. In 1931 he went to Hollywood and became a violinist in the orchestra of the studio Columbia Pictures. Even in his early years he was responsible for the compilation of film music from the company's archives and often composed the transitions from one piece to another. He later moved to his real instrument, the double bass, with whom he recorded numerous film scores. In the early 1940s Bakaleinikoff served as musical director for numerous films, mostly B- movies, serials and short films. Due to his position he composed even film scores, however, was mainly responsible for the entire musical department, so he frequently made ​​its appearance as a conductor and arranger.

The Freemasons became famous through the works for several science fiction films of the time in which he used disharmonies and the brass section provided in the foreground.

His brother Constantin (1898-1966) worked in a similar function at RKO Pictures.
