Mizoram is an Indian state with an area of ​​21,087 km ² and about 1.1 million inhabitants ( census). The capital is Mizorams Aizawl, and is the main language Mizo.

Geography

Mizoram is part of the "seven sister states ", which occupy a predominantly bounded by Bangladesh area east of the Indian subcontinent. It borders the states of Tripura ( North-West), Assam (north) and Manipur, and on the east by Myanmar and on the west by Bangladesh.

The largest of the tribes represent the Lushai, which make up about two thirds of the total population of the state. Other important Mizo tribes are the Ralte, the Hmar, the Paihte, the Poi, the Mara and the Pawi. Political system

The Legislature of the State of Mizoram consists of a unicameral parliament, the Mizoram Legislative Assembly. The 40 members of parliament are determined every five years by direct universal suffrage. Seat of the Parliament is Aizawl. In total Indian Parliament Mizoram is with one MPs in the Lok Sabha, the lower house, and the Rajya Sabha, the upper house represented.

The Chief Minister ( head of government) of the state of Mizoram is elected by Parliament. At the head of the state, however, is appointed by the President of India Governor ( Governor ). Its main tasks include the appointment of the Chief Minister and his commission to form a government.

Responsible for Mizoram highest court is the Gauhati High Court, based in Guwahati. A branch office is located in Aizawl.

Parties

The party politics Mizorams is dominated by the national Congress Party on the one hand and the Mizoram Democratic Alliance ( MDA), an alliance of regional parties led by the Mizo National Front (MNF ), on the other side. At the last parliamentary election in December 2013, the ruling Congress party won a landslide victory and decided 34 of 40 constituencies for themselves, while the opposition MDA could win only six seats in parliament.
