Moçambola

Moçambola (or Mocambicano Campeonato de Futebol, Portuguese for Mozambican Football Championship ) is the highest division in Mozambican football. The season is typically from March to September. In addition to the championship, there is also a cup competition, the Taça de Moçambique.

History

First there was in his early Portuguese province of Mozambique exclusively regional football championships. Only in 1956 the first championship was held in which the master of the eleven districts met the best teams in the capital Lourenço Marques, now Maputo. The first national championship was secured by the capital club Ferroviário.

After independence Textáfrica do Chimoio in 1976 won the first championship for which it should be for the time being have been the last title.

In 1998, no Award ceremony took place since the championship was first held now no longer based on the calendar year.

As of the 2000 /01 season, a single-track league was founded by twelve teams under the name League 2M for the first time. Since 2002, the league will be played back according to the calendar year. In 2005 it was renamed the still valid name Moçambola. Since 2007, the league is playing with 14 teams.

Game system

The Moçambola consists of 14 teams, each team in the return game twice played against each other. The team that has the most points after 26 match days, will Mozambican football champion, which also qualifies for the CAF Champions League. The three-point worst teams will be relegated to the 2 ª Divisão.
