Mohammed Mzali

Mohamed Mzali (Arabic محمد مزالي, DMG Muḥammad Mizālī; born December 23, 1925 in Monastir, † 23 June 2010 ) was a Tunisian politician and sports official.

Studies and professional activities

After schooling Mzali completed a philosophy and literary studies at the Sorbonne in Paris, where he graduated with a diploma. He then worked as a professor in Tunisia.

In 1959 he was appointed Director General of Youth and Sports. This office he held until his appointment as director of radio and television station in Tunisia, which was founded in 1964 new.

Ministerial posts under President Bourguiba

From 1968 Mzali then held various ministerial portfolios: From April 12, 1969 until November 7, 1969, he was the successor of Bahi Ladgham first Secretary of Defense. This was followed on 7 November 1969 to 12 June 1970, a work as Minister of Youth and Sports as well as from 27 December 1969 to June 12, 1970 at the same time as Minister of National Education. In addition to his political posts Mzali was also one of the leading sports officials of his home country. From 1962 to 1986 he was President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC ). In addition, he was temporarily President of the Tunisian Football Federation (1962-1963), and Vice President (1963-1967) and president (1979-1987) of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games. Here he was especially President of the Organizing Committee for the Mediterranean Games in 1967.

Mzali was a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 1965. From 1973 to 1980 he was a member of the Executive Commission of the IOC from 1976 to 1980 and Vice President of the IOC and was this as a life member.
