Moldava nad Bodvou

Moldava nad Bodvou ( until 1927 slovak " Moldava "; German Moldova at the Bodwa, Hungarian Szepsi ) is a city in eastern Slovakia in Okres Košice - okolie.

History

The city was founded in the 12th century by German settlers (first mentioned in 1255 as a villa curriferorum ZEKERES, first mentioned in 1329 as Moldava ). Due to the Turkish invasion and the plague came the rapid development of the city but to a standstill.

Until 1918, the town belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. By the First Vienna Award she came from 1938 to 1945 for a short time again to Hungary.

On the square is a Gothic Catholic church, which was built in the 15th century as a three-nave system. A reformed church was built in 1773. After the Second World War there were in the city a strong industrialization, there is, for example, a foundry, building materials and wood processing.

Population

The population consists of 55% of Slovaks, 40 % and 5%, moreover Hungary together. In the year 1991, gave the majority of the population as their Hungarian nationality.

Management

The town still belongs next to the main town of the place Budulov ( incorporated in 1986, Hungarian Bodoló ).
