Monterosso Almo

Monterosso Almo is a municipality in the province of Ragusa in the region of Sicily in Italy with 3137 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Monterosso Almo located 28 kilometers north of Ragusa. The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture and cattle breeding.

The neighboring municipalities are Chiaramonte Gulfi, Giarratana, Licodia Euboea (CT) and Ragusa.

History

The town was founded by the Normans and developed in the 14th century with the construction of the fort. The former name was Iahalmo. In the 1693 earthquake, the city was destroyed, it was rebuilt on the Monte Lauro again.
