Mortlach distillery
Mortlach is the oldest legal whiskey distillery in Dufftown, Banffshire, Scotland. The distillery buildings are partially sorted in the Scottish lists of monuments in the B category.
History
Was founded the distillery in 1823 by James Findlater, Donald Mackintosh and Alexander Gordon. The name Mortlach is interpreted differently, in addition to the translations " big green hill " or " bowl- shaped valley " it is sometimes translated as " massacre of the wild geese ", where " wild geese " the Danish army is meant that the Scottish King Malcolm II was beaten in the area around Dufftown in 1010.
Originally the distillery operated under the name Dufftown Distillery and was for a time John and James Grant of Glen Grant, later George Cowie before. Across the Distillers Company Ltd (DCL ) and United Distillers (UD) finally came to Diageo, which owns it is today.

Production
The water belonging to the Speyside distillery comes from sources in the Conval Hills. The distillery has a mash tun (12 t) of stainless steel, six fermenting vats ( per 59,000 L) in larch wood, three wash stills ( together 32,500 l ) and three spirit stills ( together 26,000 l).
For Scottish whiskeys unusual part of the whiskey is distilled in a triple distillation process at Mortlach, how else rather knows it from Ireland.
