Moss (Band)

Moss is an English drone band. Their music is influenced by HP Lovecraft and the occult and their songs usually last longer than 20 minutes.

History

Moss was founded in late 2000 in Southampton by Olly Pearson, Dominic Finbow and Chris Chantler. The band released several demos itself, the first in 2001., You also published a series of posts to split EPs and compilations with bands like Torture Wheel, Unearthly Trance, Grief, Nadja or Wolfmangler.

The band rarely occurs live. Their first gig was at an all-day charity event in summer 2002. 2003 they had once held shows in London and Manchester. 2004 has so far been the year with the most appearances and Moss made ​​his first appearance on the "Ashes to Ashes / Doom to Dust " festival in Ghent, Belgium and Tilburg. In winter, they were the opening act for Sunn O))) in Bristol. Chantler had to leave the band in early 2004. He was replaced by Andy Semmens of Esoteric until August and then by Jon Wilson, but came back again in December to attend the rehearsals and recordings to Cthonic Rites.

Cthonic Rites

On 25 December 2005, the debut album Cthonic Rites appeared as a CD at Aurora Borealis Records. Cthonic Rites was recorded in early 2005 at the Studio of Jus Oborn Chuckalumba, a member of the doom metal band Electric Wizard. The first edition was limited to 1000 copies, but it has also produced a second edition. The first edition was available along with a live CD, which was recorded on 20 August 2005 at Camden Underworld for 115th birthday of HP Lovecraft.

In March 2007, a single on 7 " split with the French band Monarch on the Doom / Psychedelic / Punk label Rise Above Records was published. It was limited to 550 copies. On this single Moss covert the song Maimed & Slaughtered the British D -beat punk band Discharge. , the planned split with the Japanese D- beat band Disclose could not be made ​​because of Disclose frontman Kawakami died on June 5. the song crawl ( Scrape ) was recorded during the Cthonic -Rite's recording session and never published.

The Expanded vinyl version of Cthonic Rites appeared only on 12 October 2007 and was limited to 1000 copies. Of these, 375 contained in each case a total of three records. Included in the set was previously self-released EP Live Burial. The offer contained a gatefold and poster with the artwork of the American illustrator Justin Bartlett. On the MySpace page of the band the announcement was made, the second album will be recorded in January 2008 and appear on Rise Above Records. In addition, two shows were announced that were played in December.

Sub Templum / Tombs of the Blind Drugged

The title of Sub Templum was posted on the MySpace page of the band for 26 May 2008. The album was finally released worldwide in June on CD and LP on Rise Above Records in Europe and Candlelight Records in the USA. The album was recorded at Foel Studio in Wales and was again produced by Jus Osborn.

In December 2008, Moss gave turn on Myspace known to want to release an EP next year. As title Tombs of the Blind Drugged was announced. The EP was released a year later, was added as a sub Templum, again at Foel Studio and published on 10 June 2009 as a 10 " vinyl with two songs. Both record label Rise Above and Metal Blade released a CD version, as bonus tracks Eternal Return and a cover version of Discharges Maimed and Slaughtered contained.

Current

On December 24, 2009 Eternal Return as a 12 " record was released. The single was available in 3 different packages.

Moss played again in 2013 at the Roadburn Festival, where they performed already in its anniversary year 2010.
