Mosty u Jablunkova

Mosty u Jablunkova ( German Mosty in the Beskids, also Mosty at Jablunkau, Polish Mosty koło Jabłonkowa ) is a municipality with 4004 inhabitants in the northeast of the Czech Republic. It is located west to the borders with Poland and Slovakia in Jablunkov Bergland. The Six kilometers south of Jablunkov located place belongs to Okres Frýdek- Místek. The land area is 3396 ha

Geography

Mosty extends to 490 m asl in north-south direction in the valley of Ošetnice, an influx of Lomná. Through the village leads the European Route 11 between 75/Staatsstraße Jablunkov and Čadca. Mosty has two road border crossings in Slovakia, in addition to the Transit transition Mosty u Jablunkova / Svrčinovec is located west of yet smaller transition Šance / Milošová ÜThe the Jablunkapass. Mosty is located on the international rail link Zilina Bohumín.

To the east rises the 839 m high Girova, west of the Malá Skalka ( 797 m) and the Skalka ( 931 m ) and in the north east on the Zelena hora Olsatal (604 m).

Neighboring towns are Bocanovice, Městská Lomná, Jablunkov and Lísky in the north, Pisek in the northeast, Svrčinovec to the southeast, and Dolni Lomná in the West.

History

The first written mention of the town dates from 1578th During this period due to the Turkish invasion of Hungary on Jablunkapass two fortifications to protect the important road between Silesia and Hungary.

In 1869, the construction of the Košice- Berger path between Silesia and Hungary, led by Mosty. The Jablunkapass crosses under a 600m long tunnel.

In the fall of 1938, Poland occupied the Olsa territory, whereby the strategic tunnel came under Polish control. Ahead of the Polish campaign, a German commando raid has accidentally attacked the guards of tunnel and station already on 26 August 1939. After initial successes the commandos they had to retreat back across the border.

Tourism

Mosty is a well-known winter sports center. During the summer months, a 650 m long mountain car train for departure is operated in two seater car, which is the first of its kind in the Czech Republic.

For Mosty u Jablunkov no districts are reported. The municipality consists of several hamlets and single layered, including Šance ( Jablunkov jumps ).
