Movement for Social Democracy

Kinima Sosialdimokraton (Greek Κίνημα Σοσιαλδημοκρατών, German: Movement of Social Democrats ) is a social democratic party in the Republic of Cyprus, based in Nicosia. The abbreviation of the party is EDEK, after the original party name Greek Ενιαία Δημοκρατική Ένωση Κέντρου ( German: United Democratic Union of the Centre). Founded EDEK of Vasos Lyssaridis in 1970, currently being guided by Yannakis Omirou. The party is a member of the Party of European Socialists.

In the 2001 elections EDEK won 6.5 percent of the vote and 4 seats in the House of Representatives in the elections on 21 May 2006, she came to 8.9 percent and 5 seats. In the presidential election in 2008 the party supported the Communist candidate Dimitris Christofias of the Progressive Party of the Working People.
