Münchwilen, Thurgau

Münchwilen is a municipality and the capital of the district in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland.

Geography

Münchwilen located in Hinterthurgau forms with Sirnach a type agglomeration and is located about four kilometers west of the city of St. Gall Wil. The Murg flows through Münchwilen.

Population

Of the total of 4618 inhabitants (2007 ) 791 residents have foreign citizenship.

Confessions

The population of the municipality is evangelical with 1,602 persons to 33.66 %, catholic are 2,052 or 43.11 % of the population. 1,106 persons ( 23.23 %) belong to neither of the two great national churches. (2009)

Traffic

Münchwilen railway is technically accessible through the Frauenfeld -Wil -Bahn. The main road through Münchwilen runs parallel to the railway line also from Wil to Frauenfeld. The village also lies on the A1 and has its own exit.

Attractions

In the neighboring village of St. Margaret, the late Gothic chapel of St. Margaret is. It was consecrated in 1642 and visited by Jacob pilgrims Schwabenweg who have left on the walls of pilgrims space Rötelinschriften.
