Municipality of Semič

Semič (German: Semi sealed ) is a town on the historic landscape Carniola ( Bela Krajina ) in Slovenia.

In the overall community consisting of 46 villages and hamlets, 3,901 people live. The main town is home alone 1,228 inhabitants. The municipality is located in the hills Gorjanci. A small area in the northwest of the community to Črmošnjice ( Tschermoschnitz ), the southern part of the valley Moschnitze ( Črmošnjiško - Poljanska ), forms part of the historic region Gottschee. Some people are talking about nor the almost extinct Gottschee Risch. By the end of the Habsburg Empire Semič belonged to the crown land of Carniola, where Semič an independent municipality in the judicial district Möttling ( political district Tschernembl ) was formed.

History

The name was given the church in the Middle Ages by the family Semeniči. Beginning of the 13th century the village was first mentioned when the area was dominated by Henrik Adeški. The lovely, middle Located in the village church of Sv. Štefan (Saint Stefan ) was first mentioned in 1228.

Attractions

Wine is gora On the slopes of the mountain Semiška grown. In the place is also a wine-growing exhibition which can be visited. also known as the Feast Semiška is ohcet ( Semičer wedding). In the third weekend in July a true marriage is celebrated in Bela Krajina costume.

Karst cave Malikovec

In the near Semič lying karst cave idols were worshiped in pre-Christian times. During the Ottoman invasions people found refuge in. In the nineties, the cave of waste was cleaned and security fences and steps have been built. The cave has six main parts with stalactites, some of which have been stolen but over time already.

Economic situation in Semič

The community Semič is economically best of all three white krainer communities because after the largest industrial company Iskra sistemi dd PE Kondenzatorji again working successfully. The production site Semič was sold at the beginning of the millennium to the Berlin Holding AEG capacitors and transformers GmbH. In consequence, there were allegations of deliberate deception and mismanagement, and that the company should be driven into Semič consciously into bankruptcy. The company was eventually taken over by Hypo Alpe - Adria-Bank and has since been re- Slovenian ownership.

PCB environmental scandal

In 1984 years, it was discovered that the Krupa, the monastery near the village ( community Metlika ) opens into the Lahinja, has been contaminated by improperly stored waste from the company Iskra Kondenzatorji from Semič with PCBs. The contamination was discovered by accident by scientists at the Health Department in Maribor and later in Ljubljana, as they investigated the source of the Krupa on their use for the production of drinking water for the Bela Krajina. Particularly problematic is the fact that this is a karst landscape. Even today, the burden of PCBs is high and can be detected in soil samples, fish in water, pets, etc..
