Myjava

Myjava (old name or rarely Miawa German, Hungarian Miava ) is a city in western Slovakia.

Location and General Description

The city is located in the hill country north of the Little Carpathians and south of the White Carpathians. Nové Mesto nad Váhom is located 22 kilometers east of the city, Senica about 20 miles northwest.

The place is an old settlement site (Neolithic, La Tène period ), and was first mentioned in 1394 as Puszta Maenkov. Since the 18th century it was one marked by craft small town that is now in a predominantly Protestant area. In the 19th century Myjava was one of the centers of the Slovak National Movement (1848 seat of the first Slovak National Council ). On April 1, 1955, the former municipality Großmyjava was divided into town Myjava and the communities Brestovec, Stara Myjava, Poriadie, Rudnik, Jablonka and Polianka.

Before 1945 there was only industries as a large brickworks, today there is also an overhead line fittings manufacturing.

The municipality still belongs next to the city proper Myjava the place Turá Lúka (1980 amalgamated ).

Through the city Myjava verfläuft the same river that flows by 80 kilometers in a westerly direction to the March ( Morava Slovak ). Through the city Myjava the European long-distance hiking trail E8, extending from Ireland to Istanbul runs.

Transport links

Myjava is connected to the public transport network by the railway line Nové Mesto nad Váhom - Veseli nad Moravou. The track is from the Slovak Railways Železničná spoločnosť ( ZSSK ) served hourly. Furthermore Myjava is also connected to the extensive Slovak national bus network.
