Naples–Salerno railway

The railway Napoli -Salerno connects the cities of Napoli ( German: Naples) on the Gulf of Naples and Salerno Gulf of Salerno with each other.

Expansion of state

The railway line is fully double-tracked and electrified. It is 54 km long. Starting point in Naples is Napoli Centrale railway station. In the context of the construction of high-speed lines in Italy was the southern part of the route, largely realigned between Nocera Inferiore Salerno and completely in a tunnel. The old route is traveled by trains of the Servizio di Napoli ferroviario metropolitano.

History

The first section of the route the railway line Naples- Portici were opened by King Ferdinand II on October 3, 1839. It was the first railway in Italy at all. The line was not completed until 27 years after this partial opening on 20 May 1866, the person releasing the last section of Vietri Sul Mare to Salerno.

At the breakpoint Pietrarsa - S. Giorgio a Cremano is the Italian National Railway Museum Pietrarsa.
