Närke

Orebro is a historical province ( landskap Swedish ) Sweden and is located in the part of the country Svealand.

Geography

At Orebro in the north include the province of Västmanland and in the East Södermanland and the lake at Hjalmaren. In the south of Orebro Östergötland and Lake Vättern is limited. The provinces of Västergötland and Värmland lie west of Orebro. For area of Orebro include the western half of Hjalmaren and the northernmost part of Lake Vättern.

From the north the almost 300 m high mountain ridge protrudes into Kilsbergen by Orebro. This ridge is located in the border area with Värmland in the southwest direction away, losing altitude. Then he rises again and reaches the border to Västergötland mountain train Tivedens. A spur of the Tivedens runs northeast to Hjalmaren. In the north of Orebro is the ridge Käglan. These three mountain ranges include a large agricultural plain.

History

As the Norwegian king Olav II 1028-1029 was exiled, he spent some time in Orebro and likely contributed to the Christianization of the area at. 1170 fell Orebro to the diocese of Strängnäs. Around the year 1200, the Örebro Castle was built as a refuge for a bridge over the river Svartån. 1435 was assigned to the leader of a rebellion against Eric of Pomerania, Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson, the castle of Örebro.

In the 16th and 17th centuries established in Orebro, a nationally important iron production. The resident farmers benefited most from the new industry, as the skin of their oxen in the mines found many uses. The leather of the ox was also a reason for the development of a larger shoe industry, which was operated mainly by the middle of the 20th century.

In Orebro, there are still some castles from the Middle Ages. The most significant and best-preserved is Tarsta at Sköllersta.
