Nazacara de Pacajes Municipality

The municipality Nazacara de Pacajes is a district in the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

The municipality Nazacara de Pacajes is one of eight Municipalities of the province Pacajes and lies in the northwestern part of the province. It is bordered to the west by the province Ingavi, and to the south, east and north by the municipality of Caquiaviri.

The municipality comprises only four localities ( Localidades ), the central location of the municipality is Nazacara with 198 inhabitants in the north-eastern part of the municipality. (2001)

Geography

The municipality Nazacara de Pacajes located on an average altitude of 3800 m south of Lake Titicaca on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental and the Cordillera Central in the west to the east. The mean annual temperature of the region is located at 7 ° C, the annual precipitation is 500-600 mm (see climate chart Comanche ). The region has a pronounced diurnal climate, the monthly average temperatures vary only slightly between 4 ° C in June / July and nearly 9 ° C in December. The monthly rainfall range from less than 15 mm from May to August and more than 100 mm in January and February.

The municipality had at the last census of 2001 a population density of 14.1 inhabitants / km ². The life expectancy of newborns in 2001 was 61.0 years, the infant mortality rate of 8.2 per cent ( 1992) declined to 6.9 percent in 2001.

The literacy rate for those over 19 years is 75.6 percent, and 95.0 percent, although in men and 55.3 percent for women ( 2001).

84.8 percent of the population speak Spanish and 96.6 percent speak Aymara. (2001)

74.8 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 75.7 percent have no sanitary facilities ( 2001).

Policy

59.5 percent of the total of 111 households have a radio, a television 0.9 percent, 26.1 percent, a bicycle, a motorcycle 0 percent, 0 percent own a car, a refrigerator, and 0.9 percent 0 percent a telephone. (2001)
