Neckar-Alb Railway

The railway line Plochingen -Tübingen is a major railway Plochingen about Reutlingen to Tübingen. It largely follows the course of the Neckar, roams between Nürtingen and Tübingen, however, the Swabian Alb. The route is fully electrified and double track running. She wears the VzG route number 4600 and is now owned by DB Netz. The German railway referred to the track today as Neckar -Alb -Bahn, where this term refers to the entire Route number 760 Stuttgart -Tübingen, ie including the Filstalbahn to Plochingen. Historically, the route is part of the so-called Upper Neckar Railway that crossed Tübingen beyond Horb to Rottweil.

History

The first predecessor of today's route was opened in 1859 between Plochingen ( where since 1846 following the Württemberg Central Railway, today Filstalbahn from Stuttgart was ) and Reutlingen by the Royal Württemberg State Railways. Until 1861 the route was extended beyond Tübingen addition to Rottenburg. After extensions, among other things to Eyach (1864 ) and Horb am Neckar ( 1866), the route ended in 1870 in Immendingen. The route of Tubingen Horb direction is now called the cultural web, there are only a few through trains.

As early as 1888, the section has been expanded to double track to Tübingen, until 1 October 1934, the line was also electrified. Both measures have not yet been carried out on the track direction Horb today.

The former stations Bempflingen, Betzingen and Kirchentellinsfurt were built back in the second half of the 20th century to breakpoints. In addition were between Plochingen and Tübingen virtually abandoned all sidings, many sidings and freight stations and largely separated from the main track in renovations.

Presence

Operation

A dense network of local trains, including the Inter Regio -Express ( IRE), connects the region Neckar -Alb with the remote transport hub station in Stuttgart. The track is from the DB ZugBus Regional Alb -Bodensee (RAB ), a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn operated.

The section Plochingen Wendlingen and Reutlingen Hbf train station are controlled by the electronic interlocking ( CBI ) Plochingen from the operations center of Karlsruhe. Otherwise, there are still trace plan interlockings.

S -Bahn

Between Plochingen and Wendlingen the S1 S-Bahn Stuttgart uses the tracks of the Neckar -Alb -Bahn. This line runs from Herrenberg to Kirchheim unter Teck.

Regional train

Regional trains (RB ) run from Monday to Friday between Plochingen and Tübingen hourly, from Metzingen to Reutlingen half hour in rush hour and every half hour until Tübingen. At the weekend, the regional trains run every two hours, Saturday mornings are also other rides between Metzingen and Tübingen go. Almost all regional trains leave from Tübingen on the Ammertalbahn continue to Herrenberg.

Almost all regional trains are run by diesel railcars of Class 650. A morning train pair between Tübingen and Plochingen is part of the Inter- regional express circulation with series 111

Regional Express

These trains run every hour ( in rush hour every half hour ) a regional express (RE). Almost all regional express trains will run as a train hauled by a locomotive, while electric locomotives of the series 143 are used. There are two rounds with the old double-deck cars (no air conditioning, instead openable windows), three rounds, each with five in 2008 delivered double-deck coaches (air conditioning, LED lighting ), as well as a round with five modernized n- cars plus a control car in the rush hours.

The last pair of trains from or to Tübingen is mostly driven a motor coach series 611. The regional express trains stop from Stuttgart Central Station in Bad Cannstatt Tübingen, Esslingen, Plochingen, Wendlingen, Nürtingen, Metzingen and Reutlingen Central Station. The amplifier also hold even in Wernau.

Inter Regio - Express

Between Tübingen and Stuttgart runs every two hours a InterRegio Express with only one stop in Reutlingen. Almost all the inter- regional express trains will run with the 611 series. Only in the rush hour there is an additional power than hauled train. To use an electric locomotive 111 series comes with three n- carriage and a control car.

Long-distance traffic

Since the timetable change in December 2009, the Neckar -Alb -Bahn is also served by long-distance transport. Monday to Friday at 6:11 clock drives a Intercity train from Tübingen stopping in Reutlingen, Metzingen and Nürtingen and Plochingen via Stuttgart to Dusseldorf or Berlin (Intercity 2010). In the evening, the Intercity from Dusseldorf (Intercity 2011 ) and reached Berlin (Intercity 1915) Tübingen Monday to Thursday at 19:50 clock, Sundays at 21:50 clock. This connection also exists from the time appointed for two years trial period.

Freight traffic

As part of the restructuring program MORA C of the Deutsche Bahn Hohenzollerische Landesbahn in 2002 took the total freight traffic between Tübingen and Plochingen by the then Railion (now DB Schenker Rail ). Despite considerable demand, the HzL moved to a few years back because of disagreements over the resulting access charges. Since then, the Tübingen goods station is operated only from the west regularly, with few exceptions, such as for parking track construction trains.

Regular freight there is thus only between Plochingen and Wendlingen ( from there via the Teckbahn after Oberlenningen ) and between Plochingen and Nürtingen ( from there via the Tälesbahn after Neuffen ). Freight is also carried out by Plochingen to Metzingen ( from there on the Ermstalbahn to Dettingen an der Erms and Bad Urach ). Plans that handle the waste transports the counties of Tübingen and Reutlingen to the incinerator Stuttgart -Münster by rail have been shattered.

The city of Reutlingen secured the site of the former goods station to long term ready to hold a site to build a container terminal.

Planning

In addition, for some years there are considerations that route together with other regional rail lines ( Ammertalbahn, Ermstalbahn, Swabian Albbahn, Zollernalb train and Upper Neckar Railway ) to integrate and build up the Karlsruhe model tram-train Neckar -Alb.

In the course of Stuttgart 21, the Neckar-Alb -Bahn is planned to connect via the Small Wendlinger curve to the new Wendlingen -Ulm. This is to the travel times of Tübingen halved to Stuttgart Airport and the Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof be reduced to four minutes.

A traffic forecast expects a passenger flows between 12,000 ( near Tübingen ) and 20,300 travelers ( at Plochingen ) per day for the year 2025.
