Neuffen

Neuffen is a small town in Baden -Württemberg in the district of Esslingen. The city is part of the marginal zone of the metropolitan region of Stuttgart. With the communities Beuren and Kohlberg, the city has Neuffen in administrative matters. Neuffen with its entire municipal area part of the biosphere area Swabian Alb.

Geography

Neuffen is located approximately 27 kilometers south of Stuttgart at the foot of the High Neuffens on the northern edge of the Swabian Alb, the so-called Albtrauf. The old town is 407 meters Neuffener, the castle ruins Hohenneuffen 743 m above sea level.

History

History

The first Celtic settlements began around 100 BC In the first millennium conquered by the Alemanni time turning the area. Around 1100 the castle was Hohenneuffen. The place that formed in the valley below the castle stood as the Lords of Nifen. Due to the good contacts of Nifens Neuffen already received city rights in 1232. 1303 sold Liutgard of Nifen Neuffen to Württemberg.

From the 14th century until 1806 was Neuffen seat of an office. With the Württemberg division in 1442 due to the Nürtinger contract Neuffen was temporarily administrative headquarters of the eastern part of the country. As of 1543 extended the castle Hohenneuffen was to land fortress. When city fire in 1634 Neuffen was almost completely destroyed. From 1801, the castle was partially canceled.
